Sheffield students swap lecture theatre for building site

Barratt Yorkshire West, which is building new homes at Waverley, between Handsworth and Catcliffe, invited the students to give them some hands on experience alongside the theory they are learning.

Thirty students visited the Waverley site, which is home to Barratt’s The Edge, Rennaisance and Evolution developments.

Sarah Trundle, a Barratt Homes trainee assistant site manager, said: “It was great to be able to provide the students with the opportunity to come along to the development and get some on site experience, allowing them to put some of the knowledge and techniques they’ve learned as part of their education, into practice.

“It’s a great opportunity for those interested in construction to throw themselves into the industry while also continuing with education.

Darren Johnson, construction director at Barratt Yorkshire West, added: “This is another great example of how we’re making investments not only into the future of our organisation, but also the future of our industry as a whole.”
