Snow patrol
Snow falls in Ecclesall Road area of Sheffield earlier today.
GRITTERS were hitting the roads in Sheffield today for a third day of round-the-clock work to keep the city moving during snow.
Buses stopped running yesterday, traffic was held up, and weekend events were cancelled as snow fell in temperatures as low as minus two.
All non-emergency ambulance journeys were cancelled, and forecasters predicted a ‘bitterly cold’ day today with more snow to come.
Bosses at Streets Ahead - the highways contract run for Sheffield Council - said gritters had been out 24 hours a day since Thursday, spreading 900 tonnes of rock salt.
Operational director Chris Morris said: “We have done, and continue to do, all we can.”
