Gusts of wind reaching 50mph wreaked havoc across South Yorkshire – uprooting trees and leading to road closures on safety grounds.

Herries Road in Sheffield was blocked by an uprooted tree until a tree surgeon was called to the scene on Thursday morning.

The Woodhead Pass and Tinsley Viaduct were closed to high sided vehicles during the high winds.

A Meteogroup weather forecaster said today should be settled and dry, with rain expected tomorrow afternoon.
