A Sheffield taxi firm has released a Christmas safety video to encourage festive revellers to stay safe.

The video – to the popular 1970s Wizzard hit ‘I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday’ – features a growing Christmas tree of drinks getting spilled during a high-speed car crash.

Mercury general manager Dermot Griffiths said: “We are always committed to helping the police make Sheffield a safer place for everyone.

“That’s why we are keeping our normal fares anywhere at just £2 extra over Christmas and the New Year period to promote the message ‘enjoy Christmas Spirit safely’.

“Like the police say if you’re drinking, get a taxi.”

The drink safely video, made by Sheffield-based Chic Media, can be seen at www.youtube.com/mercurytaxis

Dermot was given a Superintendent’s Commendation Award by South Yorkshire Police in recognition of his work to support the production of the Sheffield taxi drivers’ community safety handbook.
