Thousands of pounds have been donated to a little Derbyshire girl whose mum died in a house fire - to help her rebuild her life.

Generous wellwishers have donated cash to a trust fund set up for seven-year-old Tia James, whose mum Claire James, aged 27, died in a fire which also claimed the lives of Josie Leighton, 32, and her sons Tyler Green, nine, and 12-year-old Jordan.

Tia was the sole survivor of the blaze, which ripped through her home on Williamthorpe Road, North Wingfield, Chesterfield, in November .

The youngster is now being cared for by her father, David Harrod.

Her uncle, Adrian Marson, said:“We take great comfort in the fact we still have Tia and it is a miracle she got out.

“Tia is now living with her father David and he has been amazing. David has been supporting Tia and ensuring her life is as normal as possible.

“She is a strong and courageous little girl and has adapted well.”

Grassmoor resident Lee Forester was so moved by Tia’s plight he helped set up a trust fund for the youngster.

He said: “The response from people was amazing and Tia will be able to access this money when she is an adult to help give her a start in life.”

Mr Marson said: “As a family the support we received from organised fundraising was amazing.

“While we battled through what seemed our darkest hour as a family the overwhelming outpouring of community support and grief provided great comfort.

“Tia was swamped with things that helped in her transition to her new life and we are truly grateful to everyone for the support.

“We’ve ensured the trust fund is invested for the future to give Tia the start in life she deserves after all she saw in that house.

“We have not made a big thing of the money as she still misses her mum immensely and no sum will replace her.

“However, David and I will ensure she has the best possible start as she steps out into adult life.”
