Vandal aged 60 says sorry for causing Peak District damage

A vandal aged 60 has apologised after admitting causing damage to a rock face in the Peak District.

Police were contacted by a member of the public after the man chiselled a succession of vertical nicks into the rockface in Stanage Edge, Hathersage.

The 60-year-old man later admitted to the offence – and wrote a letter of apology to the landowner.

Officers from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team resolved the issue through restorative justice, where crimes are dealt with in accordance with the victim’s wishes.
