VIDEO: Christmas messages from soldiers in Afghanistan

Christmas messages arrived today from some of our brave Yorkshire soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

Cpl Steve Morgan, servivn in the Supply Squadron, based at Camp Bastion, also has a video message for family and friends in Leeds.

Photos and words have also been sent to The Star from two South Yorkshire solddiers at the main operating Base Price - Helmand Province.

LCpl James Addy, a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer attached to 3 Royal Horse Artillery, is from Sheffield.

He would like to wish his fiance and Sheffield United Football Club players and fans a Merry Christmas.

Gunner Daniel Willey, from Barnsley, is serving with 39 Royal Artillery.

Daniel would like to wish his parents and fiance a Merry Christmas.

The base is home to soldiers from many different units from across the UK and Germany including the 3 Mercian Regiment, 39 Royal Artillery Regiment, 21 Signal Regiment, 2 Medical Regiment, 32 Engineer Regiment and Reservists from 3 Royal Welsh.

The soldiers took part in a series of challenges in an attempt to be crowned omelette challenge and header champions of Helmand Province.

Football fever gripped the camp as soldiers attempted to break the record for the “header bin challenge” which is currently held by Manchester City Football Club.
