Police have appealed to on-the-run suspected killer John Heald to turn himself in and have warned anyone who might be harbouring him they are breaking the law.

Officers are searching for the Rotherham-born 53-year-old in connection with the death of Bei Carter, a 49-year-old woman from Bridlington and are focusing on areas including Swinton, Mexborough and Rawmarsh.

South Yorkshire Police Chief Superintendent Jason Harwin and DCI Matthew Baldwin said the landlady of the Morayland Hotel in Bridlington had been stabbed late on Friday.

DCI Matthew Baldwin of Humberside Police said: “We are concentrating on this general area - Mexborough, Conisbrough and this general area around Rotherham.”

We have had numerous sightings, there have been sightings around the Mexborough area and rural locations.

“He has been seen in various places. Our job as investigators has been to see if we can corroborate those sightings.

“I am concerned he’s still out there. He does present a danger to the public which is why we’ve put the message out to the public not to approach him.”

Chief Superintendent for Rotherham Jason Harwin said Heald is 5ft 11, with slim build and blue eyes, with short mousy brown hair and a pierced right ear.

He also has tattoos on his hand - a horse on his left hand, and dots on his knuckles, and dots on his right knuckles. On his right arm he has a mermaid and an eagle.
