Weapons seized in police raid

Police seized a handgun, “several” knives and suspected stolen mobile phones in a series of dawn raids in Sheffield on the first day of a six-week operation to crackdown on burglary, car crime and handling stolen goods.

Arrests were made in Manor, Parson Cross and Heeley on Monday as part of Operation Kustody after several months of covert police work. A team of more than 50 police officers, community support officers and safer neighbourhood team members targeted burglars, thieves from cars and those handling stolen goods.

Supt Scott Green said: “Our burglary rate is slightly higher than we would have wanted it to be. Our job is to continue to pursue those who commit crime and more importantly to impact on the stolen property market, because, without that market, without the people that buy stolen goods, it would be more difficult for those who commit burglaries to get rid of stolen property.”

Three men were arrested and released on bail pending inquiries. The operation continues during the summer.
