Wembley trip is just the ticket
Chesterfield FC tickets go on sale for their trip to Wembley for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Final in May. People queue around the stadium for tickets
WE’RE going to Wembley!
Hundreds of Chesterfield FC fans braved the cold to snap up the first tickets on sale for club’s Wembley date next month.
Some queued from as early as 5.30am at the B2net Stadium to get their hands on tickets to see Chesterfield face Swindon Town in the final of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Sunday, March 25.
Mega-fans Laura Batterham and Joanne Lee, both aged 30, were the first in line and rather chilly by the time doors finally opened at 10am.
Mum-of-three Laura, of North Wingfield, said: “Getting to Wembley is a massive achievement, I can’t quite believe we’ve done it.
“I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to go again, so there’s no way I was missing out.”
Staveley schoolgirl Bethany Wonfor, 11, was getting a ticket for her 12th birthday with mum Rosemary, sister Hannah, 23, and Hannah’s baby son Thomas Dean James.
She said: “I’m going to dye my hair blue for the game.
“I wanted to go because it’s a stadium that I’ve never been to, I’m really excited!” Last night, Chesterfield were facing a crucial match against Bury after slipping to the foot of the League One table.
But fans were quietly confident they would triumph and go on to avoid relegation this season, as well as tasting Wembley glory.
Truck operator Daniel Taylor, of Inkersall, had taken a day off work to buy tickets.
The 36-year-old said: “It’s amazing we are going to Wembley, it’s unfortunate we are in the position we are, but hopefully it will turn around.”
Friends Heidi Ketton and Joanne Wright had a bumper allocation of 19 people to buy tickets for.
Teaching assistant Heidi, 38, of New Whittington, said: “It means everything to go to Wembley and we promised the children tickets.
“I have got every faith in the team, they’re not going to lose.”
Chesterfield has been allocated the east side of Wembley stadium for the game, with an initial allocation of 21,158 tickets. A further 15,000 are available if needed.
Tickets went on sale to South Stand season-ticket holders yesterday and West Stand season-ticket holders today.
East Stand season-ticket holders can snap up theirs from tomorrow, with tickets on general sale from Tuesday.
