Loxley's Law Podcast: Pension and divorce
An asset that is often virtually forgotten in divorce cases may in fact be very valuable. Family law lawyer Martin Loxley explains.
"Pension is one of the main assets of a couple's financial planning. And it can very often be treated as low-down on the shopping list, on the agenda when a couple split up, when in point of fact it's a valuable asset that may have been accrued over many years by one party," said Martin Loxley, partner and head of family law the Irwin Mitchell in Sheffield, on his latest Telegraph law podcast.
Loxley continued:
"If one party goes out to work and the other one stays at home the chances are that the worker has built up quite a significant pension over the years, whereas the non-worker, who supported the worker, doesn't have any."
