Keen swimmers are being urged to sign up for a fundraising Swimathon in Sheffield in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.
The Swimathon raises money for the charity’s care nurses and organisers are hoping to beat the £15,000 raised at the same event raised last year.
The annual weekend event is being held at Concord Sports Centre and Hillsborough Leisure Centre between April 8 and April 10.
Swimathon swimmers can tackle 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km distances as individuals, or take part in the 5km team challenge.
Anyone who can’t take part in the Swimathon weekend can sign up for the SimplySwim fundraiser. This involves completing any distance at any time until the Swimathon weekend at Westfield Sports Centre in Sothall or Ponds Forge International Sports Centre.
Richard Apps, general manager of Concord, Hillsborough, said: “Customers can now sign up for this worthy cause which uses fitness as a way to help those who are seriously ill.
“We hope this year we can raise even more money to help people in our local area suffering terminal cancer have the dignity and support they deserve.”
All money raised goes towards home care nurses who look after terminally ill cancer patients.
To sign up for the Swimathon call Concord 0114 257 0053 or Hillsborough on 0114 231 2233.
The Sheffield event is part of the national Swimathon, which will be taking part in pools across the country to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
