A man had taken to hospital after trying to stop suspected thieves stealing from a Sheffield shop.

Officers are seeking two men in connection with a theft and assault which happened outside the Co-op store on White Lane in Gleadless on Monday, December 28.

Around 4.30pm it was reported that persons unknown to police ran from the shop carrying several bottles.

A man in his 40s is then thought to have stepped in front of the suspects to stop them running away, when one of the suspects is alleged to have assaulted him.

The suspects then ran off up Carter Hall Road.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police are keen to trace the two men pictured, as they believe they could help with enquiries.

“The suspects are described as being white, in their mid to late teens, of slight build and between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 9ins tall.

“Do you recognise the men or did you witness the incident? If you can help, please call 101 quoting incident number 718 of 28 December 2015.”
