Sheffield United: No days off if we want promotion, Chris Wilder warns his Blades

Wilder’s Blades moved up to third in the table after extending their unbeaten league run to 12 games by beating Chesterfield 4-1 on Sunday.

And Wilder, speaking after goals from Kieron Freeman, John Fleck, Billy Sharp and Leon Clarke sealed the come-from-behind victory in front of the Sky Sports cameras, said: “That’s 12 unbeaten and we’ve worked extremely hard to get here.

“The players don’t want to give it up or take their foot off the gas. There are no days off if you want to achieve and they want to achieve.

“The tempo upped and my influential players, although they’re all good players, upped their levels and took the game away from spirited opposition.

“I thought Mark Duffy, in the second half, was immense - apart from one cross which hit the A61. We just upped our game and moved the ball quicker, then showed more quality in the final third.

“We overloaded and were positive in what we did. When you have the quality at the top end, you have to show it. We were going for the win. We felt we had the opposition on the back foot, but thhey were dangerous opposition.

“Ched Evans got in a few times and Simon Moore made a save.”

Fleck, who scored his first United goal to put United ahead, echoed his manager’s sentiments.

“Training every day is at a really good tempo and if it’s not then it gets stopped,” the former Rangers man said.

“That says a lot. Really, all we can do is keep working hard and plugging away. There’s a long way to go yet.

“If you are playing for a big club like this, then you need a winning mentality. Obviously the manager has got it and the boys have got it too. We’ve just got to keep things ticking over and taking them one game at a time.

“The longer the run goes on, the more people want to stop you but we want to protect it.”
