HE IS one of us. That is Sheffield’s adopted son Milan Mandaric who is certainly acquiring a taste for one of the city’s most iconic products.
The people at Henderson’s Relish have produced a limited edition number of special bottles to celebrate Sheffield Wednesday’s promotion to the Championship.
To mark the year the famous Leavygreave Road firm have manufactured 2012 bottles of the black stuff each carrying a label proclaiming the Owls’ promotion success.
And club chairman Mandaric was keen to try it.
Dabbing a little on the back of his hand he tasted it and, like generations of Sheffielders before him, he loved the stuff.
“You know,” said the Serbian born multi millionaire, “I think I may have tasted this before but no-one told me what it was.
“Now I know what it is, Henderson’s has another customer.
“I always say that when in Rome do what the Romans do. And they say in Sheffield that if you love meat pies, and I do, then this stuff makes it taste even better.”
Liz Castleton, Henderson’s office manager, said the special bottles will be available in the Owls’ Superstore from Monday.
She said: “We worked as quickly as we could to produce the limited edition number of bottles so Wednesdayites could get it as quickly as possible.
“And we are currently also looking at doing the same for United should they make it a Sheffield double.”
In that case, Unitedites will be hoping that the Blades show some bottle it in the play offs.
