MEDICS were lowered 150ft by rope in a “treacherous” operation in an overgrown ravine in the Ewden Valley in the north of Sheffield after two walkers - one with an injured leg - were stranded on a cold, wet and windy evening.
Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by police to help rescue the men, both aged 46 and from the Chesterfield area. Its medics treated the man who hurt his leg when a wall collapsed. He was then airlifted to hospital.
Team leader Keith Wakeley said: “It was an exceptionally difficult rescue given the location, weather conditions and terrain. Thankfully, both men were well equipped.”
