MOTORISTS in Barnsley are being warned to expect delays when a series of major roadworks start this weekend.

Drivers are being advised roadworks on the A61 Upper Sheffield Road are due to get under way on Sunday.

The works will take place between Tune Street and the front of the former Yorkshire Traction Bus Depot.

The majority of the work will be carried out between 7am to 4pm Monday to Friday although there will be some weekend work.

The project is expected to last five weeks.

Work will include road widening and resurfacing, resurfacing of the footpaths, improvements to bus stops, new pedestrian crossings and drainage improvements.

The works are being carried out by Barnsley Council’s engineering services.

They are a combination of highway improvements funded by Persimmon Homes, as part of the redevelopment of the Yorkshire Traction Bus Depot and essential highway maintenance works.
