IT was a big day for Sheffield music pals and Wednesday fans Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley when they were asked to help make the Owls Foundation annual draw on the Hillsborough pitch before last weekend’s match against Charlton.

And not even a defeat by their promotion rivals could spoil the occasion for the former Pulp bandmates.

Hawley said: “We didn’t know anything about it until the club asked us on the day, so it was a nice thing for us both to do.

“I signed a music publishing deal on the pitch in front of the Kop about eight years ago and it’s a special feeling to be out there.

“It was the first time Jarvis had ever been on the pitch and he was chuffed to bits.’’

The top prize of £12,800 was won by Essex-based Wednesday fan Kevin Byford.

lHawley celebrated his 45th birthday with a bash at The Greystones this week. Among the guests were members of Elbow, Nick Banks from Pulp, Arctic Monkey Matt Helders and radio presenter Stuart Maconie.
