New City Hall manager

SHEFFIELD City Hall is to get a new general manager from March 21. Richard Hunter is moving across the city centre from his job as manager of the O2 Academy in Arundel Gate.

Richard worked at the City Hall as operations manager between 1995 and 2004 and went on to help with the reopening of the venue following its £12m refurbishment in 2005. Andrew Graham will continue to be general manager of the City Hall, which is run by Sheffield International Venues, until Richard takes over.

Help for churches

CHURCHES across the Diocese of Sheffield are being offered advice on how to sustain and improve levels of giving, despite the hard economic times. A workshop will be held at Whirlow Grange on March 24. Funds are needed for Church of England clergy and their work and to pay bills such as maintenance, heating, lighting and insurance. The Diocese of Sheffield is in the top ten of dioceses when it comes to giving.

School revamp

PLANNING permission was granted this week for a two-storey teaching block to be added to Handsworth Grange Community Sports College as part of the Government’s Building Schools for the Future programme. Existing buildings are due to be refurbished.

Trains refurbished

EAST Midlands Trains, which runs the route between Sheffield and London, this week embarked on the final phase of a programme to refurbish its entire fleet of 27 Meridian trains. It is due to be completed by early 2012.

Girl in bypass drama

A TEENAGE girl is recovering at home after threatening to jump from a bridge over the A61 Dronfield bypass last Thursday. The road was closed while she was encouraged to come down.
