Campaigners aiming to make Sheffield a fairer place are backing new plans to improve the city’s economy.

Bosses behind the Our Fair City initiative have welcomed the creation of five executive boards who will have powers over local spending decisions.

University of Sheffield Professor Alan Walker, chairman of the Sheffield Fairness Commission, said: “The new boards will have a chance to make a real difference to everyday people from all walks of life. Providing affordable housing, improved transport facilities and easier access to training are all effective steps to give everybody in Sheffield a greater chance of getting a well-paid job and a better quality of life – regardless of their social class, ethnicity or current employment status.”
