ANOTHER attempt is being made to secure council approval to replace a Sheffield working men’s club with a block of flats.
A revised application has been submitted to demolish Hillsborough Working Men’s Club, off Bradfield Road, and to build a four-storey block of 13 apartments.
Permission was refused last October because of design issues and the impact on traffic and neighbouring properties.
Fire crew’s cot rescue
TWO-YEAR-OLD Laura Harabin had to be rescued by firefighters after getting her leg stuck between the bars of her cot at home in Bowden Wood Drive, Manor.
Mum Joanna, who tried for 15 minutes to free her, said: “She was quite upset but when they got her out they showed her their big red fire car and Laura was very happy.”
MORE than 300 council tenants in Sheffield have volunteered to downsize their homes as part of an initiative to free up larger properties for families.
Housing management company Sheffield Homes launched the voluntary Smart Move scheme at the start of 2010, saying it can also mean lower fuel bills for tenants who move to smaller properties. A total of 315 tenants have signed up so far.
