BIG John has got a little girl - he’s now the proud father of an 8lbs 13oz baby daughter, writes Digital Editor Graham Walker.
The Hallam FM breakfast show radio presenter and wife Del are overjoyed after the birth of their first child at Sheffield’s Jessop Hospital.
They have yet to name the baby, who was 13 days overdue and finally made an appearance at 10.13pm last night.
John, aged 37, who married childhood sweetheart Delyth Cross in 2009, said of their baby joy in a Hallam FM voicemail message: “I haven’t.. well I have, only JUST stopped crying!
“We’ve got a baby girl…I’m a bit lost for words! She’s a beautiful chubby little girl, which is funny because we really thought we were having a boy!
“Now.. what to call her?! Ed Nell, I’m sorry, she just doesn’t look like a ‘Darth’!! All the people at Jessops have been amazing so a big big thank you. I’m going to go now… we’re a bit tired!

John has a double celebration.
Hallam FM has just announced that he has been signed up to present his award winning breakfast show, Big John @ Breakfast, for another three years until 2014.
It will make him the radio presenter with the UK’s longest running first breakfast show.
He added: “I honestly can’t believe they are letting me mess about on the radio for another three years. I am stunned that at the age of 37, I still haven’t had to get a job to make a living yet. Surely it’s going to dawn on Hallam FM soon, that we’re all just having a laugh at their expense.”
Hallam FM’s Deputy Programme Director James Lett said: “Big John @ Breakfast is the most listened to show on Hallam FM and for John to have been such a great success on his first breakfast presenting job is a testament to his abilities as a presenter. It also helps that he is such a genuinely nice bloke and on behalf of everyone here at Hallam FM, I’d like to say congratulations on the birth of his daughter and here’s to another three years of Big John @ Breakfast.”
In his time at the station, John has broadcast the show from the Maldives, New York and on the first flight out of Doncaster’s Robin Hood Airport; been instrumental in the millions raised for the station’s Cash for Kids charity; won gold at the New York Radio Awards for Best Personality; won UK Commercial Radio Station of the Year at the Arqiva Awards 2010 and interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment including Ricky Gervais, Kylie Minogue, Cheryl Cole, Jon Bon Jovi, Colin Farrell, Michael McIntyre and Simon Cowell.
His regular on-air pranks keep people tuning in every morning and for the station’s recent 10th anniversary celebrations, listeners were able to repay the favour with John playing the victim in some of his biggest stunts from the past 10 years.
These included having to put his face in a vat of fish, being chained to the station’s oldest listener for a day, and having to live in a shop window for six days to raise money for Cash for Kids.
