A STASH of old comics could have ended up in a skip – until a Sheffield expert spotted their value, with one worth £15,000.
Steve Eyre, who runs a local business, The World Of Superheroes, saved a first edition of The Avengers.
“The owner was offered £1,000 for all the comics about five years ago,” he said. “But he didn’t know if anyone would really pay that now. He just wanted rid and had even considered putting them in a skip. So he was shocked when I told him how much the collection was now really worth.
“He snatched my hand off when I offered him £20,000.’’
Steve, aged 51, took his prized possession to the Avengers Assemble regional film premiere at Cineworld Sheffield.
