The 17th century mill building that gave Millhouses its name has been saved after a five year community campaign.
The Friends of Millhouses Park secured an initial £50,000 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help save the building for community use, and now work has been completed. Solar panels and ground source heat pumps have been installed and the whole mill site is now being offered to the market for development.
Friends secretary John Brighton praised the support of the council, all partners and the community. Local MP Nick Clegg said: “Saving the building is a fantastic achievement and perhaps their best yet.”
