Olympics ripple reaches city

WITH less than a month to go until tickets go on sale for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Yorkshire region is beginning to feel the ripple effect with the launch of more than 100 cultural events.

Under the banner ‘imove’, they will include a performance at the Crucible Theatre exploring the issue of technology and sport and a classical Indian dance at Ponds Forge inspired by synchronised swimming .

Stanza Stones sees the University of Sheffield’s Professor of Poetry, Simon Armitage, taking groups of young writers aged 13 to 18 into the Pennines and creating a series of poems in response to the landscape.

More projects are being commissioned as part of imove, which is funded by the Legacy Trust UK, the charity charged with creating a nationwide cultural and sporting legacy from the Olympics, along with redevelopment agency Yorkshire Forward and Arts Council England.
