A SOCIAL networking website exclusively for people in Sheffield is up and running.

Sheffield MAX enables individuals, businesses and organisations to create their own interactive pages, post event listings, connect with family, friends and colleagues with information, videos and images, and to blog and chat.

But doesn’t Facebook do the job already?

“This is intimate, it’s you and me, it’s our community,” says the man behind Sheffield MAX, Paul Beck.

“One thing is the level of privacy. People have shied away from Facebook because it is a global entity and they are not sure where the information goes to,” he claims.

“Currently we have Sheffield Forum which is a great resource but with all due respect to it I feel Sheffield should have something a bit more sophisticated with the ability to do more than just posting texts.

“We have photographs and videos, polls and quizzes, lists of events and buying and selling.”

Paul Beck is a business adviser and internet consultant and says one of the benefits will be the exchange of information and ideas in the business community. “It will promote Sheffield, its people and businesses, entertainment, education, events, sport, and research activity within the city,” he says.

“Or you can just use it to order a pizza or sell a goldfish bowl like someone did the other day.”

To find out how to sign up for Sheffield MAX – it’s all free – go to www.sheffieldmax.co.uk, email enquires@sheffieldmax.co.uk or phone 07877609550.
