It should never have got to this stage.

The family of disabled Lewis Hatcher, 12, say they were told to start work on an extension that would make his life easier by creating a new bedroom and wetroom .

But the council disputes this –saying work began before the paperwork was completed and regulations restrict payments to families.

Meanwhile, there is a half completed extension sitting like a ‘shell’.

Whatever happened behind the scenes, schoolboy Lewis, who has the muscle-wasting condition duchenne muscular dystrophy, is now the one suffering.

The council has approved future work, as long as it is completed by another builder.

We hope a solution can be found quickly.
