The first thing to mention must be last Thursday’s draw with Plymouth, which was probably a fair result.
A lot has been said about the last heat, where Plymouth had horrendous luck to throw away the lead on the last turn, but we had our own misfortune and it evened out in the end. Richard Hall had problems and had to jump on someone else’s bike at one stage and we had a few things go wrong elsewhere. We didn’t deserve to lose but didn’t do enough to win either.
The positives included Joe and Damien again, with two good scores. They both looked to have turned a corner now; long may it continue. Richard probably came back from injury too soon but he wants to be racing; I know that feeling! It won’t be long until he’s back in the points.
The Great Britain squad was announced this week for the World Cup and I’m disappointed not to be in it because on merit I think I should be. The team manager has gone for a youthful squad alongside two or three experienced riders. I understand that, but I do believe I deserved a place. Had I not had the injuries this year and had a few more meetings I might have had a better chance.
