Racing will always be in Andre’s blood... and mine too

Hello again, Star readers!

Interesting times at the Owlerton stadium in Sheffield this week with the return of Andre Compton to the side.

Andre and I have been team-mates and rivals down the years and I was surprised when I first heard he was considering making a comeback – I guess it shows racing speedway is in your blood and you just can’t keep away!

I wish Andre well and hope Richard Hall is back on a bike soon, good luck lads.

Sheffield have booked Richard Lawson for tomorrow’s meeting with Newcastle at Owlerton and Ricky Ashworth will replace me at Newcastle on Sunday.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the lads who come in for me as guests, I know it’s never easy but all the guests they’ve used so far have given their all.

I was pleased to hear of a much improved display by the boys at Leicester on Sunday, although I wasn’t there myself. I looked down the scorechart and there is improvement there and special thanks to Nick Morris for covering me.

I feel frustrated about not riding but I have accepted it now and I just have to stay positive.

It was a serious leg injury and there is a long way to go but my target is to do everything within my power to ensure I am fit and ready to ride a bike again next March.

It’s going to be another couple of months before I can put weight down on the leg and then the real hard work begins, I’m going to have to really knuckle down and do some serious physiotherapy to get myself ready.

From that perspective, the winter is going to be tough for me, but I can’t wait to get started.

As for me own situation next season, obviously it’s too early to say and I prefer to keep the focus on the lads this season and want to see them win as many meetings as possible.

In a nutshell, I will be keeping an eye on the structure of the leagues when the Annual General Meeting comes around in November before making any decision on what my future is but I am genuinely gutted my return to Sheffield has been cut short – everything was going so well for me and I was loving it!

So I wish the boys well for tomorrow against Newcastle.

The Diamonds have lads in their team who can ride our place well so it should be a good meeting and I hope you will come along and support us!

Thanks, Steady.
