FRIENDSHIP mixed with love is the secret to 60 years of happy marriage for one Sheffield couple.

Audrey and Raymond Kind marked their diamond wedding anniversary with a small party.

The pair met at a dance, when Raymond asked Audrey for a turn, but say beginning their relationship as friends has helped them stay together for 60 years.

Audrey, aged 82, of Lodge Moor, said: “To start off as friends is the secret I would say.

“We did that and have stayed friends through everything.”

A two-year courtship led to Audrey and Raymond tying the knot at St George’s Church on Brook Hill, Sheffield, on March 22, 1952.

Audrey said: “We went to Bridlington for our honeymoon.

“My husband used to go there as a child, I went to Scarborough instead, but we ended up going there.

“We used to love ballroom dancing together very much.”

Audrey carried out secretarial work and opened a wool shop while Raymond, now aged 86, worked in flooring.

The diamond pair have two children and two grandchildren.

A small celebration was held at Seven Hills Nursing Home in Nether Edge, where Raymond lives as he suffers with Alzheimer’s disease.
