Phone mast appeal
AN APPEAL has been submitted to the Government after Sheffield City Council rejected plans for a 12.5m telecommunications mast opposite the junction of Warminster Road and Hemsworth Road.
Customers of the Rose Garden cafe in Graves Park submitted a petition saying they did not want another phone mast in the area and it “should not be sited so close to this children’s playground and the animal farm”.
THE Starlight Walk from Endcliffe Park to Forge Dam and back has so far raised £59,400 for St Luke’s Hospice. Almost 1,000 people took part on the night of May 21. Hospice events manager Anna Sheppard said: “To have raised so much and to know there is still more to come exceeds all our expectations.”
Medical centre opens
THE £2.2m East Bank Medical Centre in East Bank Road, Arbourthorne, has welcomed its first patients. Replacing cramped premises in Northern Avenue, it can now treat more than 4,000 patients in some of the most modern health facilities in Yorkshire. The centre is part of Central Sheffield GP Consortium.
THE work of the region’s top architecture students will be celebrated at Sheffield Hallam University tomorrow night (Friday). The Royal Institute of British Architects Yorkshire Student Awards covers architecture schools at Hallam, the University of Sheffield and Leeds Metropolitan and Huddersfield Universities.
Beer festival returns
ABBEYDALE Brewery and the Rising Sun pub in Fulwood Road, Nether Green, hold their annual beer festival from July 7 to 9, ending with a family fun day on the Saturday. Every pint sold of a specially brewed beer, Cow Polish, will raise 10p for Whirlow Hall Farm Trust.
