Organisers of the first Sheffield gay community ‘Pinknic’ in Weston Park hope it will be repeated next year, despite the event being hit by poor weather last Sunday.
“We are dependant on funding, but we certainly want to make to an annual event,” said spokesperson Nell Stockton.
About 300 people turned up for the party for the local gay, bisexual and transgender community against a prediction of 500.
“The weather was challenging. There were high winds and heavy rain for a while, but it dried out for the headline acts late afternoon and early evening and there was some very positive feedback that the event was well organised and the range of entertainment was excellent. All in all, it was a successful day.”
Nell added: “When you have seen belly dancing in the rain, you have experienced everything.”
