DEPUTY Prime Minister and Hallam MP Nick Clegg has sent a letter of congratulations to cricketer Joe Root, who made his full England debut in the Test series win against India.

The 21-year-old, who lives in Dore, which is in the Hallam constituency, learned his trade at Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club, which was the club of former England captain Michael Vaughan.

Mr Clegg said: “Joe not only made an outstanding debut and did his part to help England secure their first series win in India for many years, but he also made the people of his home city very proud too. It is clear that Sheffield has another major talent on our hands.”
