A JOURNALIST who hails from near Doncaster is rubbing shoulders with a host of top sporting stars in the Far East after landing a top job fronting Singapore TV’s football coverage.

Richard Lenton, aged 38, originally from High Street, Belton, followed his dream last year by relocating to the country to become the face of Premier League football on Mio TV in the country where English soccer is a huge hit.

And, after just over a year in the job, he was nominated for Best Sports Presenter at the 2012 Asian TV Awards earlier in December.

Richard, who started his career at The Star’s sister paper the Epworth Bells, the weekly paper which covers the Isle of Axholme, just missed out on first place but said: “It was an honour to make the shortlist and to be recognised for doing a decent job.

“It’s the first time I’ve ever been to an awards ceremony - I think the last individual award I won was Player of the Year for Belton Under 16s!”

Richard moved to Singapore with girlfriend Ellen, 34, in July 2011 after a year covering sport for digital sports channel ESPN.

He interviewed celebrities including Olympic triple gold medallist sprinting star Usain Bolt and champion British boxer Amir Khan.

He now presents two live shows, Football Face Off and Tiger, It’s Your Shout, and has interviewed footballing stars including ex-England and Liverpool players Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman.
