SHEFFIELD’S University Drama Studio are on the lookout for a real live ‘Sex Bomb’ to star in their latest production.

‘Tom Jones’ opens later this year and the company are on the lookout to find someone with the talent and charisma to play the title character.

This does not, however, involve a 60-something donning a low-cut shirt, shimmying his hips and crooning ‘Delilah’ while women pelt him with their underwear.

On the contrary, Tom Jones is a swashbuckling, lady-loving gent living-it-up in 1750’s England.

The comic play, by Joan MacAlpine, based on the novel by Henry Fielding, has been brought bang-up-to-date with energy, humour and some 18th century hip-hop to blow the cobwebs off the 200+ year-old story.

The director Mark Feakin is on the hunt for a shot of new blood to join the company’s ranks.

“Our Tom Jones needs to look 18 to 25 years old on stage and be fit and good looking,” Mark explained.

“Tom Jones is a huge part, talking to the audience throughout and wooing the ladies in the play

“This is a ripe, rich and rowdy play and a fantastic role.

“We’re looking for a cheeky chappy, a lovable bad boy: a Russell Brand meet Arctic Monkeys type.”

Auditions will be held on Tuesday June 14 and Wednesday June 22 at Broadfield Pub, Abbeydale Road. Each sessions starts at 7.30pm.

“If you want to make new friends, have a laugh, work on a project and achieve something come along,” added Mark.

“No need to prepare anything. Heartbreaking, handsome rocker types need apply!”
