Protest over alcohol sales at newsagent’s

OBJECTIONS have been lodged to the proposed sale of alcohol at a newsagent’s in Burncross Road, Chapeltown.

City councillors are due to decide today (Thursday) whether to grant a licence allowing drink to be sold up to 10pm at UK News and Booze.

Ecclesfield Parish Council says it supports residents’ protests on the basis of increases in anti-social behaviour, noise, litter and road safety.

Objectors say the area is already “heavily populated” with licensed premises and has under-age drinking problems.

The applicants say measures to prevent crime and disorder include CCTV and preventing people congregating inside or outside the premises.
