YOUNGSTERS from a Sheffield school dug in to plant a hedge.

More than 90 pupils from Birley Spa, Rainbow Forge and St John Fisher Catholic primary schools, all in Hackenthorpe, working with Sheffield Landscape Trust, planted a hazel, holly, hawthorn and guelder-rose hedge as part of the Owlthorpe Grasslands Grazing project and the Owlthorpe heritage and nature trail.

The children and volunteers have planted 2,180 whips – slender, unbranched shoots or plants – this year, bringing the total number planted in Owlthorpe since 2009 to 10,563.
