READERS of The Star have stepped in to ensure a woman’s dying wish was kept.

When Nancy Cocker, from Stannington, died aged 97, it was her wish that her pet, three-legged cat Oscar, never had to live in a cat’s shelter.

Instead he went to live with Nancy’s son Peter, who died on New Year’s Eve, aged 77.

Solicitors managing Nancy’s estate then found a rehoming centre willing to take the cat, but Liz Selwood, a friend of Nancy and Peter, contacted The Star to see if any readers could help find a new home for Oscar.

And now the puss is settling in with the Beeden family in Hammerton Road, Hillsborough.

Accounts administrator Carolyn Beeden said: “I saw Oscar in The Star with Liz, who I recognised from an aqua-fitness class I used to attend, and thought why not.

“I’m glad we did because he’s now settling in really well. He has particularly taken to my son, Michael.”
