Relief as old chapel gets toilet after 269 years

UNDERBANK Chapel in Stannington Road holds an open afternoon on Saturday between 3pm and 4pm to thank contributors to its Flush Fund Appeal for its first ever toilet.

Gavin Mason, a member of the fund committee said: “The chapel was built in 1743 and in all these years our congregations have had nowhere to go for ‘relief’. Now at least there may be less fidgeting and crossed legs during service!”

Money was also raised by members of the Unitarian meeting place for a small kitchenette and relocation of the vestry.
