AROUND 80 residents joined a march through Dore on Tuesday in protest at plans for a telecommunications mast in the centre of the village.

They walked to the proposed site on Causeway Head Road, chanting: “Stop the mast! Stop the mast!” Demonstra-tors included children who carried banners and signs they had made.

The Stop the Mast action group was stepping up the pressure on the council in advance of today’s (Thursday) deadline for objections to the proposed 15-metre structure.

Members said they hoped the council and its planning department “will listen to the many voices of protest coming from Dore when examining this application and that for the health and safety of its citizens, and to protect the attraction of a beautiful neighbourhood and conservation area, they will do the right thing and reject this application”.

O2 and Vodafone want to share locations as they aim to provide coverage for a new generation of iPhones, BlackBerries and other smart phones. They say they are complying with Government planning guidelines.
