A PACKAGE of proposed road changes in connection with the new Asda superstore in Chaucer Road, Parson Cross, is due to be approved today (Thursday).
But changes are being proposed in one area after patients at Foxhill Medical Centre in Halifax Road warned in a 279-name petition that parking restrictions would cause problems for infirm patients. Already one patient has fallen from his wheelchair as a result of having to park his car around the corner, councillors are being told.
It is now intended to reduce the length of double yellow lines, although not all restrictions would be removed. Disabled drivers can use blue badges, it is pointed out, and without some restrictions any drivers would be able to park all day, pushing patients further away.
Most of the traffic package is due to be implemented, though, after public consultation indicated 73% support. It includes signal controlled junctions on Halifax Road at both Chaucer Road and Deerlands Avenue. The Asda is being built next to the Chaucer Business and Enterprise College.
