Rotherham United suffered an opening-day disaster as they crashed 4-1 at home to newly-promoted MK Dons in the Championship.
The Millers, with eight new signings in their starting line-up, were 3-1 down at half-time and the game was over in the 75th minute when Dons substitute Carl Baker beat left-back Joe Newell to fire a fourth past goalkeeper Kelle Roos,
It was a tough debut for Roos who was at fault for the visitors' third goal and was unconvincing with his kicking.
No-one saw this result coming after a pre-season of so much optimism.
How different things might have been had Aidy White, with time to spare, not steered his effort wide of a completely empty net with the score at 1-1 in the 21st minute.
Buoyed by the let-off, Karl Robinson's side added two more goals before half-time after a period of Millers domination and saw out the second half without too much trouble.
Tom Thorpe missed a golden chance for the Millers with the score still at 3-1, heading tamely straight at keeper David Martin in the 68th minute from just a few feet out
MK went in front after just five minutes when Rob Hall was on hand to tap in from close range after Rotherham had failed to deal with Dean Bowditch's left-wing cross, but the Millers were level eight minutes later when Matt Derbyshire headed in Chris Maguire's quality corner from the left.
MK led again in the 28th minute as Jordan Spence's cross from the right was deflected under Roos by Millers centre-half Danny Collins.
Roos messed up seven minutes later when a cross from the other flank, after an horrendous mix-up between skipper Greg Halford and Tom Thorpe, was touched by Bowditch and somehow found its way past the 6ft 5in Dutch stopper.
This was a torrid afternoon to forget for Steve Evans' men.
