SHEFFIELD is preparing to celebrate the royal wedding with street parties across the city.

The number of parties has grown to 33, with the council approving street closures to allow residents to stage outdoor activities.

A celebration in Devonshire Street on the edge of the city centre will be accompanied by the first of a series of monthly markets on the green featuring craft and food stalls and music.

An indoor street party is being held in Meadowhall’s Oasis food court.

Spokeswoman Gemma Noble said: “A lot of our customers will remember Charles and Diana’s wedding but their children might not, so we want to provide the perfect atmosphere for families to cherish the special day together.”
