Sheffield’s favourite sauce has switched from orange to yellow in honour of the world’s most-watched sporting event coming to the city.
A 50,000-strong batch of Henderson’s Relish bottles, bearing a Tour de France label, has been produced to mark the event on July 6 in a nod to the yellow jersey elite cyclists compete to win.
But sauce fans can relax – the flavour remains the same, which means the special editions are already selling fast around Sheffield.
Liz Castleton, office manager at Henderson’s, said: “We sent some to Sheffield Scene on Norfolk Row and the following day they called back to say they would have to order another ten boxes because they were selling like hot cakes.
“We started sending them out a week ago so they are on general sale in all the supermarkets and shops now.
“Because they have a limited shelf life, in that we can’t see them after the Tour de France, we decided to make 50,000 and hopefully sell them by the time it gets here.”
The Star’s Wear It Yellow campaign is encouraging Sheffield to welcome the Tour by turning their street, school or firm golden on July 3. Wear it Yellow day will support Yorkshire Air Ambulance with people donating £1.
