A Sheffield schoolgirl is recovering after almost losing part of her sight when she was hit by flying debris during gales.
King Ecgbert student Nazira Begum, aged 16, was knocked to the ground after plywood was blown out of a skip.
Friends and passers-by rushed to her aid as she lay on a pavement in Dore covered in blood.
After being taken to the Northern General Hospital, Nazira was transferred to the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, where she was treated for a deep cut above her eyebrow.
Nazira’s father, Madris Ali, who runs a newsagents in Heeley, said: “The cut was two centimetres deep. They said if it had hit her eyes she would have lost her sight.”
Nazira is recovering at the family home in Bannerdale Road.
Mr Ali thanked staff at Dore greeting card shop Paper Moon and an off-duty nurse, who helped his daughter.
