Scouting growing in popularity among girls in South Yorkshire

Scouting is growing in popularity among girls in South Yorkshire, according to the latest membership figures.

The figures reveal that 240 girls joined the movement in South Yorkshire in the 12 months up to January 31 - an increase of 11.4 per cent. There are now 2,347 female Scouts in South Yorkshire.

Nationally there are 144,000 girls and young women in the Scout Association altogether - the highest proportion since the Scout Movement first welcomed women and girls into all of its sections 25 years ago.
