Sheffield bar’s bid to sell alcohol until 1am approved

A Sheffield bar has been granted permission to sell alcohol until 1am.

But The Pointing Dog on Ecclesall Road must not allow people to drink on its outside terrace after 12.30pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays as a condition attached by Sheffield Council to its licence.

A total of 41 locals objected, saying the hour’s extension would create more noise. But the applicant argued nearby venues had the same ‘terminal’ hour, police had no concerns, and ‘covert surveillance’ on busy days found ‘no material noise’ from the premises. An assessment found traffic was the ‘dominant noise’ after 10.15pm. Only two direct complaints were made but 729 people signed a petition in favour.

Broomhill Coun Brian Webster said residents would be ‘disappointed’.
