The gloves are off... as Sheffield boxers Adam Etches and Scott Jenkins get on their bikes to fight for young people with cancer.

Scott, Adam and their matchmaker, Richard Poxon, have signed up for ‘La Mont Blanc’ – a gruelling 138km ride through the Italian Alps in July.

The trio are helping Weston Park Hospital’s Teenage Cancer Trust Unit as part of their ongoing ‘Let’s KO Cancer’ campaign, backed by The Star.

Adam said: “At first when Rich said we were doing it I thought it would be quite easy but the more I’ve looked at it the reality has started to sink in! It’s got about 3,500 metres of climbing.”

Scott added: “We’re really proud to be ambassadors for the hospital, so we’ll be going all out this year.”

Money raised will go to the facility, supported by the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, which is celebrating 20 years of fighting cancer locally.

Cat Rhone, of the charity, said: “We are continually overwhelmed by the level of support both Adam and Scott show for the Cancer Charity.

“From boxing to cycling initiatives, their proactive attitude has already helped raise such a fantastic amount for the Teenage Unit.”
