Staff at a Sheffield firm taking the step into fundraising by taking part in a sponsored walk to raise cash for the city hospital which treated their chairman.

The IML Labels & Systems Ltd employees have volunteered to take part in the Light the Night torch-lit walk through Ecclesall Woods next month.

Money raised through sponsorship for the 4.5k walk will be donated to Weston Park Hospital, where IML chairman Ken Cook, aged 70, was treated for cancer.

He was diagnosed with prostate cancer five years ago and received life-saving treatment at the specialist cancer hospital.

His firm is also sponsoring the walk, which has been organised by Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity.

Mr Cook, who has worked at the firm for over 30 years, said he is keen to support the hospital to ensure other patients can benefit from its care and treatment.

He added: “It was an easy decision for us to sponsor and take part in Light the Night this year, as personally, I really want to give something back to this incredible hospital and charity.

“Thousands of people, like me, face the reality of a cancer diagnosis every day, and the more support we can give as a company, the better chance we all have of surviving this terrible disease into the future.”

IML marketing manager, Hayley Higgins, added: “ We are incredibly proud to be supporting Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity at Light the Night and we’d urge businesses and families alike to join this magical event at Ecclesall Woods.

“The event is a great way for anyone to raise funds for such a vital cause and IML are really excited to be part of it.

“Our walking team is growing by the day, with some staff even bringing their children along in the night- we can’t wait.”

Now into its fourth year, Light the Night is being started by World and Olympic champion heptathlete, Jessica Ennis- Hill.

It is to be held on Saturday, October 3.

The charity needs to raise over £1.8 million this year to enable the funding of committed and new

Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity fundraiser, Sarah Cross, said: “It’s thanks to corporate support that we are able to hold such successful events and ultimately raise funds which go towards helping to transform the lives of thousands of people fighting cancer across the region.”
