Greyhound stadium workers in Sheffield swapped the dog track for betting tables as a thank you for clocking up 200 years of service.

They Owlerton Greyhound Stadium staff were treated by bosses to a night at Napoleons Casino on Ecclesall Road to thank their loyalty.

Husband and wife, Pat and Stuart Scholey, picked up awards for 30 years’ service for running the stadium’s Hare and Hounds bar.

Carol Senior, who has also worked at the stadium for 30 years, has worked as a kennel hand, racing office assistant and assistant racing manager.

Matt Whelan was also honoured for 30 years’ service, having worked in a variety of roles including turnstile manger and in the stadium’s cash office.

Long service awards were also handed out to Sam Tweed, Lynda Cattlin, Carli Holt, Charlotte Colley, Dot Wild and Rita Sharpe, who have all worked at the stadium for 10 years.

Racing manager Sam joined Owlerton from school and has progressed through the ranks within the racing office.

Lynda is a home finder for the Sheffield branch of the Retired Greyhound Trust, which she has run with her husband Roy since 2005, finding homes for more than 1,000 dogs.

Carli is a restaurant team leader and cleaner, and Charlotte works as snack bar supervisor.

Both Dot and Rita are cleaners.

Dave Perry, general manager of Owlerton Greyhound Stadium, said: “Our staff are the lifeblood of Owlerton and their loyalty, dedication and high standards have played a key part in the stadium’s success.

“I was extremely proud to hand out the long service awards to such an honest, reliable, professional and talented group.”
